Is Medigap Insurance worth it?
When talking with my clients, I am often asked ” Is Medigap Insurance worth it?” first we need to know what Medigap insurance has to offer for you.
Medigap (also Medicare supplement insurance or Medicare supplemental insurance) refers to various private health insurance plans sold to supplement Medicare in the United States. Medigap insurance provides coverage for many of the co-pays and some of the co-insurance related to Medicare-covered hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health care, ambulance, durable medical equipment, and doctor charges. Medigap’s name is derived from the notion that it exists to cover the difference or “gap” between the expenses by Medicare Parts A and B for the preceding named services and the total amount allowed to be charged for those services by the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As of 2006, 18% of Medicare beneficiaries were covered by a Medigap policy.

The chart below shows you all the Medigap Plans and what they cover and how much they cover.
So is Medigap Insurance worth it? As you can see Medigap plans can really help keep money in your pocket by covering the 20% Medicare doesn’t cover. Every plan is a little different to help fit your budget. The most popular Medigap plans are F, G, and N.
This plan is the easiest plan to use. As long as you pay your monthly premium you are covered to go to any Hospital or doctor that excepts Medicare you will be 100% covered
Plan G is a great plan! in fact, I place most of my clients with this plan. When looking at this plan, you might ask yourself ” why would I want a deductible?” Well, when looking at premiums I always make sure that you are paying as little as possible for as many benefits. and in the long run, for most companies it will save you money to just pay the deductible instead of the company paying it for you.
Now when looking at the chart, you might be wondering why a plan with co-payments and deductibles would be in the top three. For people who almost never go to the doctor, this plan can be one of the best. It will still cover you for most everything but because of the co-payment for the doctor or hospital, the premium stays lower.
Is Medigap Insurance worth it? Yes! Medigap insurance truly helps you not only save money but gives you peace of mind knowing that you will be covered for any emergency
